VIMS Hospital has a very efficient Emergency Medicine Department. Emergency Medical Services at our hospital is known to be among the best in the country and at par with international standards of care. Our highly efficient disaster team is well trained to handle mass casualties and all such patients are assured of an appropriate care within the “GOLDEN HOUR” which begins from the moment of injury.

The Neurosurgery Department provides a full range of Neurological service for adults and children. Our renowned Neurosurgical team treats Head injuries, Spinal injuries, Tumors of the Brain & Spinal cord, Neurovascular Neurosurgery for vascular disorders of brain, minimally invasive endoscopic pituitary surgery and surgery for complex tumors of the CP Angle. The VIMS Nephrology Department treats patients of Acute and Chronic Kidney Failure due to various reasons including snakebite with various modalities of management including Peritoneal and Haemodialysis. It has a 10 beded state – of – the – art dialysis unit section which functions round the clock for treating cases of Kidney Failure due to various causes. Special dialysis formats like SLED and Plasmapheresis are also available for cases of poisoning, Gullen Barre Syndrome etc. Patients with Glomerular diseases leading to nephrotic syndrome are seen and specific therapy is initiated based on ultrasound guided renal biopsy done by trained professionals. This Hospital is an approved centre for Kidney Transplantation as well.

Cleft Lip and Palate are openings or splits in the upper lip or roof of the mouth (palate). It is one of the most common birth defects seen in newborn babies which occurs during second and third months of pregnancy. These isolated birth defects are often related to genetic conditions.

Causes of Cleft Palate:

The possible factors may include family history, race, gender, diabetes or obesity during pregnancy. There are possibilities that it may occur due to exposure to viruses or chemicals while the fetus is developing in the womb. However, a definitive cause has not been discovered yet. Low nutrition plays an important role.

• Symptoms of Cleft Palate:
• Coronary Angioplasty and Stenting (PCI)
• Nasal voice, trouble with speech
• Chronic ear infections or impaired hearing
